Reflect

Yesterday’s reading called Satan an accuser, and today’s calls him the father of lies. He can never take away the salvation of a believer, but he will try to take away the joy of salvation. He wants God’s people to live not in freedom but in fear, shame, and isolation. He wants everyone to believe the worst about themselves and the worst about God.

Where God says He’s kind, Satan wants us to believe that He’s angry at us. Where He says He’s loving, Satan wants us to believe that He doesn’t truly like us or enjoy us. And where God says He’s forgiving, Satan wants us to believe that He could never forgive us.

The Bible says to be strong against these attacks in God’s power, not your own. You’re never left to fight Satan by yourself; God promises to always be with you. He’s won the ultimate victory. While you wait for Jesus to return and finish the battle once and for all, trust in His promises. Read on tomorrow to learn more about the armor of God that you can turn to when attacks come.

Respond

Have you experienced lies from the enemy? How have they shown up for you? It might be through things like negative self-talk or hurtful words from another person that you can’t let go of. What do you do when you notice yourself believing lies? Spend some time in prayer thanking God for His promises, and ask Him to help you spot lies for what they are and replace them with His truth.
